Media Arts

Program Overview

The Media Arts program is a four-year program that provides students with the skills necessary to produce original videos using state-of-the-art technology. Students learn the principles and fundamentals of the television, film industry and the technical skills necessary to perform various tasks required of broadcasting and media producers. Hands-on activities include the production of television cablecast programs at Madison’s new state-of-the-art television studio! Students learn all aspects of television and radio broadcasting, including writing scripts and treatments, cinematography techniques, nonlinear editing, lighting, audio engineering, field and live studio productions, and remote news gathering.

Program of Study

Grade 9

This course is designed to provide students with the principles, fundamentals and skills related to the video production industry. This includes instruction and hands-on assignments in the following areas: camera operation, audio systems, lighting systems, pre-production, studio operations, Editing, writing, control room operations, visual effects and graphics, and copyright laws. Careers in the Media industry.

Grade 10

This course is designed to provide students with the Intermediate knowledge and skills related to the video production industry. students learn skills related to television, video, film, and/or radio production. This includes instruction and hands-on assignments in the following areas: camera operation, audio systems, lighting systems, pre-production, studio operations, control room operations, visual effects and graphics, and copyright laws. Students earn OSHA certification.

Grade 11

This course is designed to provide students with the Intermediate knowledge and skills related to the television broadcasting industry. This includes instruction and hands-on assignments in all aspects of broadcasting including camera operation, audio engineering, lighting systems, pre-production, studio operations, control room operations, journalism, visual effects and graphics, and FCC and other governmental agencies’ regulations related to broadcasting. students work in a team-based environment to create a variety of weekly live and pre-recorder TV shows. Students earn adobe certifications, are eligible for COOP and can enroll in dual enrollment courses.

Grade 12

This course is designed to provide students with the advanced knowledge and skills related to the video and television broadcasting industry. In addition to expanding on the activities explored in the first three courses, students collaborated and worked independently producing their final videos and Capstone projects. Instruction includes single and multi-camera operations, linear and nonlinear video editing, production and post-production processes, animation graphics, sound mixing, multi-track production, audio editing, and special effects. Students earn adobe certifications, are eligible for COOP for the full year and can enroll in dual enrollment courses full time.
