Program Overview

The Vocational Facilities and Property Maintenance Program for grades 9-12 is a comprehensive educational initiative designed to prepare high school students for careers in property management, facility maintenance, and related fields. This program equips students with the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to excel in these industries, offering a dynamic blend of classroom instruction and practical training. Through a structured curriculum, students gain expertise in a wide range of subjects, including building systems, equipment maintenance, safety regulations, and sustainable practices.

In this program, students engage in immersive learning experiences that include maintaining school facilities, conducting repairs, and managing property assets. They also explore topics like budgeting, project management, and customer service, which are essential for successful careers in property maintenance and facilities management. By the time students graduate, they are not only well-prepared for entry-level positions but also have a strong foundation to pursue further education in these fields. The Vocational Facilities and Property Maintenance Program empowers students to make a meaningful impact in their communities by ensuring that properties and facilities are efficiently maintained and meet safety standards, contributing to the overall well-being of society.

Program of Study

Grade 9

During year one of this program students will be given a basic understanding of shop safety. Students will be introduced to hand and power tools with instructional focus on safe operation. Students will begin to build their knowledge on measurements and shop related math.  

Grade 10

During year one of this program students will be given a basic understanding of shop safety.  Students will be introduced to hand and power tools with instructional focus on safe operation.  Students will begin to build their knowledge on measurements and shop related math.

Grade 11

During year three of this program students will begin to work on some of the technology components associated with this industry.  Students will be instructed in several areas in order to earn certificates.  These areas include AutoCAD, FEEBO, BOGO, Fall safe, and HotWorks. Students will also use the skills they developed in previous years to begin working on the model home (platform) located in the shop.    Students will also complete a research project in preparation for their senior capstone project.

Grade 12

During year 4 of this program students will use the skills from previous years to finish their high school career.  Students will complete the platform project. Students will complete a work readiness curriculum to help prepare them for graduation. This includes resume building, interview skills as well as team building skills. Students will complete their senior project (Capstone) as a culmination of their education in this field. Students will also earn a CPR recertification.
