Cosmetology

Program Overview

Students receive comprehensive training in all areas of cosmetology and related fields with a focus on preparation for the state licensing exam and employment. Students learn how to manage a salon, start a business and deal effectively with clientele. Students will work on both mannequins and live models throughout their classroom training.

Students are trained in the art of nail care, cutting, styling, coloring, and waving of hair, as well as the treatment of skin and scalp. Students are trained in sanitary procedures relating to all areas of study. Cosmetologists are not only hairstylists, they are also highly trained professionals skilled in a variety of areas in this creative, evolving and interactive profession.

Program of Study

Grade 9

Freshmen year begins by learning all about hair: How to style it, how to make it healthy, how to braid it, how to create an up style, and many other important aspects of hair. All grades review safety and sanitation on a daily basis.

Grade 10

Sophomore year begins with hair cutting and continues throughout the year. Hair cutting includes the use of shears, razors, clippers and trimmers. A great haircut needs a great style which is a continuation of 9th grade hair styling. All grades review safety and sanitation on a daily basis.

Grade 11

In the junior year, we begin by focusing on everything nails. We then move onto hair color, permanent waves and smoothing products/applications, and lastly we move onto skin, facials, makeup and waxing. All grades review safety and sanitation on a daily basis. 

Grade 12

Senior year is a review of all things cosmetology with the addition of more in depth training. At the beginning of the year we start with your Capstone project and continue with it until your presentation. The best part of senior year is receiving 1000 hours and the ability to sit for the state board exam and earn your professional license! All grades review safety and sanitation on a daily basis.
