Madison Park Technical Vocational High School (MPTVHS) is proud to provide specialized instruction to identified English Language Learners (ELL) in English Language Development Levels (ELD) 1 through 5 and Formerly Limited English Proficient (FLEP) students in grades 9 through 12, representing nearly 50 percent of the school’s total student population.

These students, speak 13 languages and come from several different countries. This diversity adds a vibrant richness and new perspectives our school.

The MPTVHS ELL program follows a Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) model, in which students receive ELD instruction by licensed English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers and sheltered content instruction (SCI) by licensed subject-area or grade-level teachers. This program model is designed to support ELL students both in their English language acquisition and in their academic learning. Additionally, MPTVHS has a Newcomer Program for students who recently arrived to the country and a Severely Limited or Interrupted Formal Education (SLIFE) program for students who may have gaps in their education and need specifically designed remedial enrichment in literacy and numeracy while learning English. MPTVHS offers the unique opportunity for ELL students to receive a tailored career and technical education by providing vocational ESL with trained CTE and ESL teachers.
